June 5, 2025
Luís Rocha, CBeRa’s Chair Holder and head of the CASCI Lab (at SUNY and CBR), took part in a roundtable at the Oeiras Valley Science Festival on May 25. The session, titled “Artificial Intelligence: Between Algorithms and Decisions,” was moderated by Alípio Jorge, a specialist in Machine Learning and Data Mining from FCUP and INESC TEC.
Luís was joined by Bernardete Ribeiro, a professor at the University of Coimbra and an expert in Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition, Neural Networks, and Financial Engineering. Drawing on his expertise in complex systems and network science, Luís explored the evolution of artificial intelligence, tracing its roots from the pioneering ideas of Alan Turing to today’s most advanced technologies. His talk highlighted not only the scientific and technical progression of AI, but also its cultural and artistic dimensions, underscoring its deep impact across disciplines.
