In the words of Mohammad Khasawneh, a professor at SUNY (State University of New York) and chair of the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering at Binghamton University, in a post on his LinkedIn profile, the Lois B. DeFleur Award is “a highly competitive and well-deserved honor” and “a reflection of Luís’s hard work, dedication, excellence, and commitment to the mission and vision of Binghamton University,” where Luís Rocha holds the George J. Klir Professorship in Systems Science.
In the same post, Mohammad Khasawneh notes that in the award letter notes, the Lois B. DeFleur Award review committee “was particularly impressed by [Luís’s] pioneering work in complex systems, computational biology, and biomedical informatics, and by his ability to link advanced computational methods to critical real-world challenges in the health and social sciences.”
