Work Packages

Work Package 1/2/3Project Management

This work package ensures effective coordination and smooth operation of the CBeRa project. Led by the CbeRa Management team, it oversees progress, addresses risks, and ensures compliance with legal and administrative requirements. A Steering Committee, made up of key CBR and UCP members, guides strategic decisions and supports team integration. An external Advisory Board of experts offers guidance on research and innovation strategy. The package also includes planning for sustainability, innovation, and data management to support long-term impact.
Work Package 4Establish the ERA Chair & Research Group

This work package focuses on building a strong and diverse research team under the leadership of the ERA Chair Holder. The recruitment process follows strict standards of transparency, fairness, and gender balance, with support from dedicated panels and in line with European best practices. It includes hiring postdocs, a PhD candidate, a research data steward, and a Group Leader for a new research group. Once onboarded, team members will be integrated into CBR with personalized support. Clear working principles and structures will also be established to guide collaboration and career development.
Work Package 5Research and Innovation Strategy

This work package focuses on shaping CBR’s long-term scientific direction in the field of Complex Networks & Systems (CNS). Led by the ERA Chair Holder, the strategy will identify research priorities, funding opportunities, and partnerships to strengthen CBR’s innovation potential. It also includes setting up the right legal and operational framework for the ERA Chair team and fully integrating the CNS lab into CBR’s structure. To support this, state-of-the-art research infrastructure and equipment will be installed, boosting CBR’s capacity for cutting-edge biomedical research.
Work Package 6/7Research Capacity Building

This work package focuses on launching and strengthening the ERA Chair research group in Complex Networks & Systems (CNS). Led by the ERA Chair Holder, the team will identify research synergies within CBR and UCP, fostering collaboration and joint research initiatives. A retreat will kick off this effort, bringing together CBR group leaders to align goals. The team will also review current partnerships to expand collaborative opportunities, create internal and external knowledge-sharing platforms, and organize seminars and expert visits to encourage engagement and idea exchange. These activities aim to build a vibrant, connected research environment around CNS.
Work Package 8/9Training & Education Excellence

This work package enhances CBR’s educational and research environment by introducing new training and learning opportunities in Complex Networks & Systems (CNS). The ERA Chair team will review and update existing programmes, design personalized training plans, and support interdisciplinary collaboration through mentoring and seminars. Activities include workshops with industry and healthcare partners, a CNS-focused summer camp, and the development of CNS modules for UCP’s academic programmes. These efforts aim to strengthen research skills, foster innovation, and modernize education in line with European standards.
Work Package 10/11Research Management Practises

This work package supports lasting improvements in CBR’s research environment. Led by the ERA Chair Holder, it promotes gender equality, sustainability, and Open Science principles across the institution. Key actions include updating data management practices with FAIR principles, enhancing transversal skills like scientific communication and leadership, and strengthening support for grant applications. The team will also integrate modern tools like electronic lab notebooks and create training opportunities for ethical research, project management, and funding strategy. These initiatives aim to embed structural change and boost CBR’s long-term research capacity and competitiveness.
Work Package 12/13Contribution to the ERA

This work package brings the research vision of CBeRa to life. The ERA Chair team, in collaboration with CBR researchers, will lead cutting-edge projects in Complex Networks & Systems (CNS) to advance biomedical science. Their work combines computational modeling and data-driven approaches to explore disease mechanisms and public health solutions. The team will also develop joint research plans, pursue exploratory studies, and promote international mobility through staff exchanges. These efforts will lay the foundation for securing major national and European research funding, boosting CBR’s global scientific impact.
Work Package 14/15Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation

This work package ensures that the project’s results reach the right audiences and generate long-term impact. The management team will lead efforts to share knowledge through a dynamic communication plan, a project webpage, open-access publications, and international conferences. Public engagement activities like open labs, lectures, and social media will raise awareness of CNS research. Additionally, an exploitation strategy will help identify and protect valuable results, promoting innovation and future applications. Together, these activities strengthen CBeRa’s visibility and relevance across scientific, public, and policy communities.
